Last.fm Trends: Music’s Heavyweights Battle At The BET Awards 2011

This year’s BET Awards takes place this Sunday June 26 in Los Angeles, and it’s set to be huge. Once more the awards brings together performers from across the spectrum of urban music.

Today Last.fm Trends is looking at the scrobbles and tags for some of that varied lineup, to find out which acts come out on top before the awards are announced.

In a meeting of Marys, gospel‘s own Mary Mary have gained 632,525 plays from 91,120 listeners, but the soul vocals of Mary J. Blige come out on top with 9,649,356 plays from 831,658 listeners.

Representing R&B, Chris Brown‘s 1,412,209 listeners dwarf Justin Bieber‘s 515,690. In a case of protégée and patron, rap stars Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Wayne respectively have 633,695 and 1,845,403 listeners apiece.

Two-thirds of Destiny’s Child are due to perform, but Beyoncé surpasses both Kelly Rowland and all the other BET performers: with a huge 49,647,020 plays from 2,082,193 listeners, she should bring down the house at the Shrine Auditorium.
