Her approach to songwriting and producing is very much that of an independent artist, and she works on her own schedule without interference from her record label. Recording [lastfm]Donny Hathaway[/lastfm]‘s hit song “You Were Meant For Me” and including it on Where It All Begins was her own decision, and it made the record only because, for Lalah, “it felt right.” Though she respects the posthumous duet [lastfm]Natalie Cole[/lastfm] recorded with father [lastfm]Nat King Cole[/lastfm], don’t look for any such duets in Lalah’s immediate future.
