After much anticipation, Katy Perry released a two minute trailer for her upcoming 3D film. Titled Katy Perry: Part of Me, the film is comprised of video footage of Perry at the record studio and on tour as well as photo snapshots of her childhood.
Following the success of Justin Bieber’s 2011 3D film Never Say Never, the documentary is directed by Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, both producers on that same film. The LA Times reports Katy Perry: Part of Me began production over a year ago, following Perry on her 124-date California Dreams tour.
“The atmosphere I grew up in was 100% Christian,” Perry said in the trailer. “I started singing in church. I never really had another plan.”
With clips of Perry holding a poster that reads “Meet Jesus,” the film will allow fans to completely step into her world and will likely touch on her divorce with Russell Brand.
“I was going through some depressing, dark times. But, it’s a journey. I learned so much from that journey. I feel like a stronger, better person because of it,” she said.
The film will detail Perry’s rise to success and the hardships she faced in her early career after being dropped from her label.
“If you have a dream, you have to go on a journey to pursue that dream,” she said.
The documentary will be released Fourth of July weekend.
Currently in India, Perry shared a fan-made Bollywood video of her hit “California Gurls” on Twitter. Well known for her love of Indian culture, Perry hosted a Bollywood-themed party days before her wedding to Russell Brand in northern India and the nuptials, which took place in October of 2010 reportedly saw a procession of 21 camels, elephants and horses, dancers and musicians.
