When Rihanna makes her third appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend, she’s officially booked as the musical guest (Eli Manning is the host), but there have been hints that she might make her way into a skit or two as well. Considering that she’s gearing up for her feature film debut in the upcoming Battleship (hitting theaters in the U.S. on May 18th) it would make perfect sense for her to show off her acting chops.

Speaking to MTV News, SNL chief Lorne Michaels commented on the possibility of Rihanna making a sketch appearance, saying, “Yes, are hoping so. We’ll know [soon]. I wish I could report on everything that’s been written [and] if this were tomorrow, I could. I know that there are a lot of things in the works, but I don’t frankly know how they turned out. And I think it’s our intention.”

If her prior SNL Digital Shorts with The Lonely Island were any indication, she definitely possesses a keen sense of comic timing, at least while performing musically.

In her first appearance with Andy Samberg’s Shy Ronnie, Rihanna exhibited her exasperation with her tongue-tied counterpart via her signature vocal riffs.

And in the duo’s followup, Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie and Clyde, Rihanna, as “Clyde”, branched out even more with a spoken intro to the song and perfectly timed eye rolls and brow lifts to show her frustration with her inept cross-dressing partner.

Whatever talents the SNL staff choose to show off for their musical guest, you can pretty well be sure of one thing…a performance of her latest single, Where Have You Been, which saw its video premiering this week.
