Christian rapper Lecrae released his first mixtape ‘Church Clothes’ that created a lot of buzz in the mainstream market. DJ Premier, Kendrick Lamar, No Malice, 9th wonder, and Bun B are just a few artists that have co-signed with the MC’s new music.
With the release of ‘Church Clothes’, Lecrae hopes to cross into mainstream hip-hip without compromising his positive message. He wants people to “Just call [him] hip-hop. Lecrae the person is a Christian, but my music is hip-hop, and I don’t want you boxing my music in because you have this presupposition of what it is”.
In just 48 hours his mixtape was downloaded over 100,000 times. From the looks of it, Lecrae may be the one to take hip-hop to another level.
