David Guetta is going back to the future for his latest video. While he readies the clip for “I Can Only Imagine,” which features Lil Wayne and Chris Brown, the in-demand French producer offers a behind-the-scenes look at the filming process.
“This video is more based on really strong images…more than storytelling like ‘Turn Me On’ was,” the international DJ says in the clip. “This one is more like crazy, super strong images and futuristic images…and that’s new to me so I’m really excited.”
The clip promises to be a visual spectacle. In one scene, a dancing Brown wears a suit that lights up to the beat of the song.
“The concept of the video is, David Guetta actually has this control room that’s made out of all holograms,” explains Colin Tilley, director. “It kind of feels like Minority Report. It’s got a really just crazy vibe. And he’s controlling everything that’s happening in his world. He’s controlling these dancers that are going crazy. He’s controlling Chris Brown in this room with his mask on.”
Tilley adds that getting Guetta, Brown and the Wayne on the same set was a coup.
“When you have three of the biggest superstars on the planet you have to really plan,” he explains. “Just prepare yourself for the challenge of getting all this done in certain amount of time…it’s part of the deal. We always make it work.”
While there’s no word yet when the video will drop, Guetta says he is already excited by early viewings of “I Can Only Imagine.”
“I’m so happy I trusted [Tilley],” he says. “Because yesterday I saw the final storyboard and it was amazing.”
