It’s a position precious few artists ever experience: How does one follow-up after writing the defining song of an era? Much like Outkast’s “Hey Ya” and Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” Gotye’s ubiquitous hit “Somebody That I Used to Know” is the kind of song that transcends music and becomes an indelible part of pop culture at large.

For Gotye, the move was to release a new animated video for the song “Save Me,” taken from Making Mirrors, the same album that spawned his worldwide hit with Kimbra.

“Hey folks, check out the new film clip for ‘Save Me,’ singlehandedly directed and animated by the fabulous Peter Lowey at Piepants Animation,” Gotye said on his Facebook page. “There’s actually a bunch of new videos coming out soon, so stay tuned. I even made one myself!”

The emotional clip depicts the transformative powers of love, mirroring the languid, orchestral pop feel of the song, closer in spirit to classic Peter Gabriel than anything currently on the charts.

Gotye’s extensive U.S tour kicks off August 22 at the legendary Red Rocks Ampitheatre in Denver, and includes stops at the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival in Seattle and the Austin City Limits Music Festival.
