From Lizzette Perez
Do you plan to Cyber shop today? If you plan to check out the Cyber Monday Deals keep in mind most sites like Ebay and Amazon have special deals at special times throughout the day. There was a 193 percent increase in mobile shopping on Black Friday 2012 over last year as reported by ABCNews and they shared some great safety tips that I will now pass along!
1. Make Sure It’s A Secure Site
Always check the URL has HTTPS and something I never realized to look for is that tiny padlock icon when you’re in the purchasing pages of the website. Having both will ensure spending on a secure site.
2. Keep Your Security Software Updated
This is more a reminder than a tip, but we all need to be reminded from time to time to keep our computers protected. Anti-Virus will help you avoid unsafe shopping websites. Think of it as your cyber mall cop!
3. Watch Out For Email Spam
My email was flooded with Cyber Monday and all kinds of Holiday Shopping Deals! Don’t click on the given links. You’re better off opening a new web page to find the deal and to avoid any security problems.
4. Use A Different Password At Every Site
You may have heard this before and maybe it’s time you start changing some passwords. Never ever use the same password for all of your accounts. Some of the tricks we all know, are the lower and uppercase letters, numbers and special characters. This is definitely encouraged and stay away from family and pet names, especially if your always showing off kitty on Facebook!
5. Be Extra Careful If Shopping On Phone Or Tablet
Password protect your phone or tablet and make purchases over a secure password protected Wi-Fi network. Always pick credit over debit.
