GRAMMY nominee Michelle Obama has a couple of predictions for this year’s awards show.
The First Lady, who was nominated for her spoken word reading of her book, American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America, told People Kelly Clarkson and Frank Ocean should win one of the big prizes handed out this Sunday.
She said she would like to see Kelly, who just played the Inauguration, win Song Of The Year because “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” is an “empowering song with a positive message.”
The American Idol-winner received three nominations—Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Solo Pop Performance–for the song, which was inspired by a piece of motherly advice given to the writer of the song, Ali Tamposi.
As for who should take home Album Of The Year, Mrs. Obama would like to see Ocean’s Channel Orange win.
“He’s a young, innovative performer with a soulful sound,” she told the mag.
Though Ocean, who is nominated for six awards, putting him in a six-way tie for the most nominations this year, seemed to come out of nowhere, in actuality the singer made a name for himself writing songs for other artists including Justin Bieber, John Legend and Beyoncé.
Go here to check out the rest of Mrs. Obama’s GRAMMY playlist, which includes Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Jackson 5 and, of course, Beyoncé.
